Baby Boomer Women Seeking Retirement In Mexico

2368444_orig50% of all babies from the baby boomer generation were women, and now they are all grown up and ready to retire. This first generation of women who worked and earned respectable money are done raising children, single, and looking for somewhere to retire abroad.

A close friend of mine had her eye on retirement in San Miguel, Mexico for years. She is in her fifties, single – never been married, independent, and makes a good living. After traveling to Merida and Sisal with me this past summer, she started re-thinking her choice. She has never been to San Miguel, only researched the area on the internet and discussed with friends who have work down there. Spending a few days in Merida, has changed her retirement plans.

When I asked her why she was choosing Mexico, she explained it is the people. “Everyone is happy, and I’ve always been drawn to that.” After her June 2014 visit to Merida, she was in love with the city, Sisal, and the locals. Each we speak on the phone, she is looking up new things and places to see or do in Merida, and planning for retirement in the Yucatan.

Her story is one of many. The Yucatan draws people in. Women seeking to retire feel safe here. In Merida, they have everything they need at their fingertips. Shopping, the beach, and a simpler way of life. Many are giving back to the local communities they are moving to, teaching children and even helping start businesses.

It is inspiring to see these baby boomers stepping into their dreams and following their heart to the Yucatan. I know it tops my list for places to retire. My favorite escape is Sisal and the bright smiling faces of the people. If you are looking to retire I encourage a visit to www.ensisal.com.
